The village is the ancient Ceula, mentioned in high
medieval age. San Siro's church (probably of XI cent.) has been deeply
changed in '700. Thanks to the restorations of 1950 we can notice the
two periods of its construction: the medieval part, severe and empty,
with three aislesdivided by round arches with stone columns lacking in
capitals and a truss roof and the Baroque part of the apse. The church
still keeps interesting works of art ( two paintings of genovese's
school: Piet... with the Saints Michele Arcangeloand Rocco dated 1620 by
Gioacchino Assereto, sitting Madonna with the baby and two Saints by
OrazioDe Ferrari; wooden Madonna by Anton Maria Maragliano of XVIII
cent. and a silver golden chalice of the second half of XV century.) The
clock towerm probably of Carolingian age, was built to sight the enemy,
as the sea entered very deeply into the valley, just closed to the
Montale's hill.
